Barbara brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to Free to Be™. She is both a Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist with over 30 years experience in rehabilitation. She is a consultant and educator to healthcare, businesses and industries, and develops training programs for worker safety, risk management and emergency evacuation. Her lectures and workshops promote injury prevention, safety and well-being.
“I believe that through education people can learn how to help themselves live and work in a safe environment. Independence does not mean being by yourself. It means taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being.”
Free to Be™ began in Vancouver in 1993 as a retail resource centre providing functional products and rehab services to promote independence and quality of life. The retail store was closed in 2000, and the owner, Barbara Purdy developed Free to Be™ into a consulting company producing and training injury prevention programs and DVD’s. She also offers home visits providing Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy assessments and treatments.
The mission of Free to Be™ is to empower people to become more responsible for their own safety and well-being. Through our programs, they gain a better understanding of injury prevention and take action to create safer, healthier workplace environments for themselves and others.
Free to Be™ cares for people and operates with integrity, honesty and respect. We believe that our programs and services improve quality of life and are successful in preventing injuries.
